Amarinth secures an order for $1.5M of API 610 OH2 pumps to be deployed on the Upper Zakum 750 mega-project

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 19 October 2015

Amarinth, a leading company specialising in the design, application and manufacture of centrifugal pumps and associated equipment to the Oil & Gas, petrochemical, chemical, industrial and renewable energy markets, has secured a $1.5M order from Petrofac for 12 API 610 OH2 super duplex pumps with Plan 53B seal support systems for the produced water treatment plant that will serve the increased capacity of the ZADCO Upper Zakum oilfield following a $4B development project.

The ZADCO Upper Zakum 750 project is one of the largest offshore field development projects in the Middle East. Upper Zakum is the second largest offshore oilfield and fourth largest oilfield in the world and is located 80km off the coast of Abu Dhabi. It is constructed on artificial islands and is particularly unique being a huge onshore project requiring an unusual blend of offshore skills and disciplines. The $4 billion of capital expenditure will increase production of the field by 50%.

This project has a very selective vendor list and Amarinth secured the order following a number of previous successful projects with ZADCO and Petrofac. This also meant that Amarinth was already familiar with the design specifications. The order was facilitated through Arabian Industries, a leading EPC, based in Oman, and the super duplex pumps, including bespoke baseplates, will be supplied on a tight 25 week delivery.

The pumps will be delivered in two batches, the first six pumps to the South Island and the second six to the North Island, and used in the treatment plant that processes all of the produced water from the artificial islands.

Space restrictions in the plant meant that the standard overhang of the Plan 53B seal support systems would create problems and so within the 25 week delivery deadline Amarinth are also designing a bespoke baseplate for the pumps that will enable the Plan 53B seal support systems to be positioned over the pumps in order to minimise the footprint.

Oliver Brigginshaw, Managing Director of Amarinth, commented: “We have a strong relationship with Petrofac having supplied pumps previously into numerous major projects in the region and so we are pleased that Petrofac has once again recognised our proven ability to develop bespoke designs that overcome challenges and which can be supplied to the tight deadlines required for such oil and gas projects. In addition, working with Arabian Industries for this order who are based on Oman has underlined our strength in the Middle East and our on-going investment expanding operations in the region.”
